CARMEN - Moscow State Ballet

Carmen is a symbol of a a passionate, free-spirited woman, that mark an important milestone of the epoch. The choreography and the libretto, baseded on the novella by Prosper Mérimée, was created by a Cuban master Alberto Alonso at the request of the Russian glorified ballerina Maya Pliseskaya. The music, taken from the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet and arranged for strings and percussion by Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin, is of a deep expressive condition at the service of the dramatic action and the strong human feeling.

The ballet Carmen had its world debut at the Bolshoi theater in Moscow in 1967.
